Vesta is the ancient Roman virgin goddess of the family and hearth.  She is charged with renewing the sacred fire of Vesta, which is symbolically renewed every year on the first of March near the Vernal Equinox in the modern Roman Italian custom of Religio Romana. This is in essence a rite of spring which culminates in June with the festival Vestalia.
